We are lucky people.
I don't like to list our blessings too often because I understand how temporary any circumstance is, and we don't like to tempt fate by dwelling on all the blessings that have come our way lately. Three years ago we learned how quickly a charmed life can be challenged by unexpected events. My wife was hit by a car and severely injured. Her comeback and recovery tested us and the kids. But we hung on and the experience revealed Rebecca's incredible fortitude and selflessness.
Last year my wife, Rebecca, encouraged me to run the New York City Half Marathon. She had already been raising money for Covenant House and it was time for me to join in. Training for this event was a daunting task. But buoyed by her encouragement and the wonderful contributions of my friends, I persevered and together we raised over $4000 for Covenant House, and I managed to finish the 13.1 mile run. Unfortunately, I did not win, but I wasn't dead last either!
Well, we're at it again. We look forward to raising funds and awareness for Covenant House. Covenant House provides shelter and services for young people 18 -21 who fall outside of most government safety nets, yet are some of the most vulnerable among the homeless. Often the help offered at this pivotal stage in their lives is the difference between a life on the streets or a college education and successful career. We have personally seen how Covenant House has worked with our young friend Jesse to give him housing, healthcare, and a college education. We know the difference that Covenant House makes and we hope you will consider making a contribution to Covenant House through our Giving Page.
