Here are some essays I wrote a number of years ago that seem to get a great response from visitors to my website. When I was first learning how to improvise, I found it very hard and wondered why it was so hard to get good answers about how to learn to improvise. I promised myself that if I ever figured it out, I would be able to explain it. I think it’s important as a teacher and as a performer to be able to articulate the process that I took to get to be able to do what I can do. Even if that explanation is flawed! Because the critical thinking it takes to discuss the process is the process. Anyway, these four essays are listed below:
