Why we’re at it again

Last year, Rebecca encouraged me to run my first distance race, the NYC Half-Marathon. It was an important statement about Rebecca’s triumph over injuries she suffered in December of 2011 when she was hit by a car. Her resilience and determination were astounding and running became her rehabilitation and she was determined to share the miracle of her recovery with the young people whom Covenant House serves every day. She wanted me on-board to share in the benefits and the giving to Covenant House. So, looking back on it, it was easy. It was easy because the recovery was still fresh to us. The power of our family and love for each other  were brought into focus by the test of her injuries. I was inspired to meet the physical challenge of running 13.1 miles and our friends were inspired to give to our fundraising efforts for Covenant House.

Now our challenge is to retain the lessons we learned when we were jolted out of our daily grind by a horrific accident. Thankfully, we have had much more mundane challenges over the past year and yet we want to keep our focus on the things that matter. Running is important because we can and we don’t take that for granted. Giving is important because we’re in a place to do that now. This race is our way of remembering the lessons of the winter of 2011/2012 and to invite you to join us in helping the homeless young people that Covenant House saves every day. Click here to help!
